I now have spent several years trying to develop and establish a style of painting so that when people are viewing my work they would recognise it as being Chris Sheldrake’s work. It sounds quiet a simple task, however I found there were other factors to consider and so I set about the task and soon found out to achieve my objective I had to consider several factors not just how to put the paint on the canvas. I chose five criteria, but before I started I had one fundamental rule, and that was I would have to enjoy painting my pictures. No matter what style I come up with, I consider this to be absolutely the most important criteria of all. I began by allowing myself five selections to accomplish my style; basically the five are SKY’S, STUCTURES, WATER, ATMOSPHERE, and INSPIRATION. First I chose SKY’S because it is related to structure, but I also like the changing colours and ever changing shapes. STRUCTURES, I consider to be buildings, boats etc. I like the architecture the shadows and silhouette opportunities against the sky’s. WATER, here I like to exaggerate the dancing reflected light of the ripples. ATMOSPHERE, I try to build atmosphere and mood into the picture with this criteria I hope the viewer uses their imagination to enhance the concept. INSPIRATION is a concept that hits you and say’s that picture needs painting. Put simply I could say my style is a Landscape and Cityscape painter. I have also given myself a massive subject range, which I can paint a picture in both oil and watercolour, plus I can use Pallet Knife or brush. My motivation is driven by conveying to the viewer a WOW factor and hope they see in my pictures an illusion of reality.
